Kevin King AIA, LEED AP
Kevin King’s interest in architecture dates back to his childhood when he would help his dad maintain rental properties and learned that if you don’t know how to do something, you can always figure it out. After getting his start interning at a firm in St. Louis, he helped open a branch office in Kansas City requiring him to design, manage, and execute projects figuring it out along the way.
Early in his career, Kevin took a position at a landscape and land planning firm in New Hampshire where he developed a strong interest in planning. He developed an expertise in higher education and joined Ayers Saint Gross in 2002 staying for 15 years. He returned to the firm in January 2023 as an associate principal in the Planning Studio.
With more than 35 years of experience in architecture and planning, Kevin King has led planning efforts on more than 60 campuses, ranging from small private colleges to large public universities. He finds it rewarding to help college and university leaders see their campuses in a new way, encouraging them to think differently about improvements that could take place in the short and long term. His favorite experiences are when he can form long-term relationships with his clients and help them evolve their campuses over time.
Outside of work, Kevin is a father of two grown sons and an avid cyclist who has biked across the country and regularly bike commutes to the DC office. He is also active in the Society for College and University Planning and the AIA.
