The renovation of our firm’s 4,500 square-foot office in Tempe, AZ, was driven by a desire to create a more agile, collaborative, and people-centered workplace. The redesigned environment reflects the way we work today: it’s flexible, interactive, and shaped by our culture.

A variety of new spaces support both focused and group work, including huddle rooms, phone rooms, a wellness room, pin-up charette areas, and open collaboration zones. The shift from assigned, built-in desks to unassigned benching was paired with new built-in lockers for personal storage, promoting mobility and choice throughout the day.

Technology upgrades played a key role in the design. All AV was refreshed with an intuitive click-connect system, while acoustic lighting and sound masking ensure an environment that’s acoustically comfortable. The new paperless library and adjacent work area expand functionality and productivity, with space for 3D printing, model building, and project material storage — supporting research and design innovation.

The entry sequence was completely reimagined. The former reception desk was replaced with a multi-use island that serves as a collaboration hub, social touchpoint, and community table for office gatherings. Adjacent to the island, a custom-designed display celebrates our design awards and firm history, expressing a sense of identity and pride upon arrival.

Materiality throughout is intentionally simple and restrained, creating a canvas for people and projects to animate the space with color and energy. Exposed concrete floors are paired with top-set carpet, white oak planks add warmth along the curved spine wall, acoustic felt lends a softness in meeting rooms, and painted homasote boards line the pin-up walls to support material studies and design reviews. Clear and smoked glazing partitions provide space definition while maintaining visual continuity.
