Ayers Saint Gross developed a comprehensive Campus Master Plan for the Texas A&M University Higher Education Center at McAllen, Texas, establishing a flexible, long-term vision aligned with the university’s strategic goals. The plan supports Texas A&M’s commitment to expanding access to quality higher education in South Texas, fostering a campus environment that advances academic growth, innovation, and community engagement. Throughout the process, the design reinforced Texas A&M’s core identity and traditions while embracing the climate and culture of South Texas, ensuring the campus feels distinctly Aggie while remaining rooted in its Rio Grande Valley setting.

A few core ideas, centered on placemaking, campus comprehension, landmarks, and human comfort, formed the foundation for a plan flexible enough to guide implementation over time. The resulting roadmap addresses expansion of the Center’s capacity, optimization of existing facilities, and integrated solutions for housing, dining, transportation, and campus life, with focused attention to campus development, mobility, utility infrastructure, sustainability, and wayfinding.
