Karen Bastidas Wins IIDA MAC Emerging Leader Champion Award

Ayers Saint Gross interior designer Karen Bastidas, an associate in our interior design studio, was recognized as an IIDA Mid-Atlantic Chapter Emerging Leader Champion during the chapter’s Premiere Design Awards event on May 1. This award recognizes one emerging professional in the Mid-Atlantic region who demonstrates a commitment to excellence and advancing the profession and surrounding professions of interior design.

Karen, who joined Ayers Saint Gross in 2021, was honored for her work in the interior design field, as well as her time spent mentoring interior architecture students both locally and in her home country of Ecuador. She is an active IIDA volunteer, serving as the signature events chair for the communications committee. She also volunteers with local organizations including Martha’s Table and DC Central Kitchen. 

In addition to her project work, Karen is known around the firm as an active collaborator with a positive attitude towards problem-solving and exploring solutions that elevate our work. She contributes to our firm culture and community by serving as a co-leader for our Women’s Affinity Group, planning educational sessions for the DC office, participating in sustainability and DEI initiatives, and supporting community outreach programs including ACE Mentors.
