Architect Shannon Dowling Publishes SCUP Research
Architect and Space Analyst Shannon Dowling recently published a Society of College and University Planning (SCUP) Fellow Research Project Final Project entitled, “The Planning and Design of Diverse, Equitable and Inclusive Campus Environments.”
As part of her research, Shannon gathered information from more than two dozen institutions and more than 200 students around student preferences for welcoming and inclusive physical campus environments. Using those findings, she developed a playbook to guide institutions and design teams through key strategies and possible metrics relative to diversity, equity, and inclusion that can be used when planning, designing, and assessing physical campus space.
The playbook is intended to serve as a conversation starter and a way to help planners, designers, and institutional stakeholders move the needle toward a more supportive physical environment that champions belonging and inclusivity.
