To support the District’s goal of increasing jobs and small businesses, this study was undertaken to determine the potential of underutilized industrial land to support economic growth. The study shows how the District and its residents can improve and support existing industrial businesses, while reimagining the area to expand the jobs and amenities available to residents. The study presents opportunities for new companies focused on locally made foods, goods, and technologies, as well as essential municipal facilities. Tech start-ups, art studios, “green” businesses, and light industrial companies are discussed as possible creative uses for existing warehouses and other buildings in Ward 5.
