The George Washington University Student Center acts as a hub for dining, student-facing services, and on-campus events. Inspired by evolving student behavioral and dining trends, Ayers Saint Gross designed a renovation updating the underutilized student space into a multi-functional gathering space for students and their guests.

As part of the renovation, the design team reimagined an existing kitchen area, food vendor space, and recently relocated spirit store into three distinct dining venues that offer a diverse range of food options. By removing dividing walls, the team created an open, welcoming gathering space that encourages connection and collaboration. A variety of furniture types and seating arrangements support flexible dining, studying, socializing, and informal meetings.

A refreshed finish palette reinforces the university’s broader identity, while new lighting brightens the space and maintains the flexibility needed to support large events and gatherings. Varied ceiling treatments and custom-branded environmental graphics draw inspiration from Washington, D.C. landmarks and the university’s history to celebrate both the institution and its lively student culture.
